I was born in the beautiful city of Izmir, Turkiye, on a spring evening. I came into the world with a notable physical difference—I was missing three fingers on my right hand. My birth followed two challenging pregnancies that my parents endured, making my arrival a mixed moment of joy and concern. This early challenge taught me resilience, empowering me to remain calm amid weird and sympathetic stares. Growing up, I often practiced in front of the mirror, learning how to respond to questions about my hand with a smile. I convinced myself that being different was both normal and manageable. Over time, this resilience evolved into a strength I celebrated, a strength that, paradoxically, I needed to let go of to truly find myself.
After studying philosophy at one of the best universities in Turkiye, I pursued a master’s degree in marketing. My goal was to understand the strategic elements of human behavior. This academic journey was complemented by internships starting from my first university year, leading me into the People & Culture departments of various companies. Alongside learning much and making meaningful contributions, I had the privilege of working with truly inspiring individuals and had the opportunity to lead international projects on Mental Health, Diversity and Inclusion to enhance employee experience. However, like many of you, there were times when my dedication to my career impacted my well-being. I occasionally experienced migraine attacks, some of which led to emergency room visits, and there was also a brief period marked by panic attacks, driven by a relentless urge to optimize every aspect of life. These experiences served as a profound reminder of the importance of balancing professional drive with personal health and self-care.
As the pandemic began, I moved back to my family’s summer house in Izmir. Although I was physically at home, I found myself working non-stop, day and night. I was also diligently pursuing my coaching certifications. The transformation I was undergoing was both satisfying and overwhelming. I knew this pace wasn’t sustainable, but it felt as though I couldn’t slow down. During this intense period of reflection, I began to contemplate resigning from my job to start my own coaching and training business. After discussing this with my manager, who recommended taking a couple of months to consider my options, I was just starting to warm to the idea of taking a break when I unexpectedly received a job transfer offer to Sweden.
Initially intended as a one-year assignment, my role was swiftly made permanent after just five months. I thought to myself, 'This is the perfect opportunity; I'm ready for this new chapter.' I began to settle in, learning Swedish, building friendships, and finding joy in my work environment. However, the stability of my situation was abruptly disrupted. I was laid off shortly thereafter due to company restructuring.
Suddenly, I found myself urgently needing to address several issues—my landlady was selling the apartment, my visa was nearing expiration, and soon I was without a salary. Despite my skills and experience, which I believed would make finding another job straightforward, particularly in Human Resources, the reality proved much tougher than anticipated. Facing interview after interview, I quickly came to understand the challenges of being a foreigner in the Swedish job market, particularly as many positions required native-level Swedish and a thorough understanding of Swedish employment law.
Meanwhile, I deepened my engagement with coaching, breathwork, and meditation, and I began to systematically document my thoughts through writing to manage my stress levels. I also continued attending my therapy sessions regularly. It was a kind of life crisis I had never experienced before. These practices helped me maintain stability during these turbulent times and greatly enriched my personal development, reviving my dreams. Amidst these challenges, I met my partner, which further reinforced my commitment to make Sweden my permanent home. Life has a way of presenting unexpected turns just when you think you have everything under control. And then, real self-discovery begins.
This series of transformative experiences accelerated my journey toward the life I had long envisioned but often postponed. Embracing the unexpected, I have learned that true fulfillment comes from aligning with one’s authentic self and finding resilience amidst life's unpredictable twists. True success isn't about schools, titles, or how you're seen in the professional and social worlds. It's about sustaining health and joy every day, savoring life, and co-creating joyfully. At least, that’s true for me.
Today, I use my decade of experience in coaching, breathwork, and meditation to guide others through their own transformations. My goal is to help you embrace change and discover your true potential. If my story resonates with you and you are seeking guidance on your path to healing, I hope our paths cross someday.
May you always love yourself completely and wholly.
